Congratulations Archwood School Library Learning Commons!

On Saturday, January 27, 2024, the Manitoba School Library Association (MSLA) announced that the Archwood School Library Learning Commons is the recipient of the ! Congratulations to the grant writing team of Curtis Lowton, Teacher-Librarian; Matthew Bonnett-Lambert, Library Assistant; and Bob Cowie, Vice-Principal!

“As an elementary school with a small student population, the Archwood School Library budget supports the instructional needs and interests of our students and staff,” said Mr. Lowton. “Our responsibility to curate and maintain a current, engaging, and diverse library collection often means that our annual budget is tight, so it is very exciting to have received $500 specifically dedicated to purchasing makerspace supplies for our library learning commons!”

This provincial award is presented annually in memory of former MSLA President Kevin Mowat’s invaluable contribution to school libraries in Manitoba. The grant provides funding to purchase tools and materials to enhance a school library makerspace and contribute to the creativity and innovation of students in the school.

The library staff is very grateful to have received the 2024 Makerspace Seed Grant in memory of Kevin Mowat and his invaluable contribution to school libraries in Manitoba.

“We used the funds to purchase many makerspace materials, including child-safe cardboard cutters, hot glue guns, magnetic tiles, straws and connectors, geometric drawing tools, and a marble run to engage the students in hands-on learning,” said Mr. Lowton. “Big thanks to the Manitoba School Library Association for their ongoing support!”
